theSUBTITLING.NETwork was formed in the summer of 1999 for the re-use of subtitles.
The concept is ONE translation into subtitles per language for all media, instead of producing a
new translation every time a broadcaster is granted a license. We store the info about existing
subtitles in a databank and act as an intermediary.
We represent the rightful owner of the copyright in supplying the TV stations and subtitling companies with existing subtitles.
This way the producer collects the royalties and not an unknown third party.
Besides representing the producer in a specific language area, existing subtitles can in fact be used in any language area.
For example, the time-codes of English subtitles can also be used for the same film/series in a country like Hungary.
For a licensee, the use of existing time-codes can save up to 25% of the translation costs.
